1.Please choose a news article, it can be from a published or
online newspaper. ( can be from Twitter also)
2. Add your selected news article at the beginning of your
study.
3. We will prepare a word file, and you can prepare your study
like an essay format, or you can just simply analyze your news
article item by item.
4. The news article will be examined in 3 levels of discourse
analysis, ( as shown in your last course note on ubis and below)

3. micro structure.
5. After adding your news article at the beginning of your word
file, analyze your article step by step ;
1-In macro level, explain the topic and general
meaning of the news article
2-In super structure, explain the general ideas
of the news article paragraph by paragraph, like what is it saying
in the introduction, what is it saying in the following paragraphs
and what is it saying in the conclusion?
3- In micro level, we will try to
understand the hidden or deeper meaning of the article.
-We will look for the specific words (negative or positive
statements) and syntax (word order) of the sentences to see if the
author tries to focus on or hide some specific information
especially to manipulate the reader.
-Try to understand the underlying perception of the news article
by using discourse analysis. (What is the real message underlies?
Is it supporting or negative)
-Check the visuals if there is one. (positive or negative or
emotional).
-Check the headline and the news article and look at the most
highlighted words and phrases and tell if they are positive,
negative, supporting or simplifying the message.
