The duct shown in below connects two tanks. One tank holds a mixture of 70% mole nitrogen and 30% mole oxygen, and the other tank has a mixture of 75% mole oxygen and 25% nitrogen. The pressure is uniform, 1.0 atm, and the temperature is 50°F. The diffusivity for nitrogen- oxygen system is 0.728 ft/hr. The nitrogen will diffuse through the duct in the direction of decreasing diameter. 1. Derive an expression for the molar flux of nitrogen, and calculate the the rate of transfer of nitrogen between the two tanks due to molecular diffusion. 2. If the duct is replaced by a tube of diameter (d₁ + d₂)/2, then determine the rate of transfer of nitrogen. d₁ = 6 in at x₁ = 0 DI d₂ = 3 in at x₂ = 2.5 ft
