[L2] A pipe in a power plant has been fabricated by shrink-fitting a steel cylinder of outer diameter 360 mm on to a stainless steel inner cladding of outside diameter 100 mm and wall thickness 20 mm. This has been done to provide adequate corrosion resistance. You may assume that the axial stresses (0zz) generated are negligible. For the outer steel, E = 210 GPa and v = 0.3. For the stainless steel cladding E= 190 GPa and v=0.3. a) For this problem, how may the general equations for the radial stress (or) and hoop stress (000) be simplified for the cladding and the cylinder? b) During operation, it is anticipated that there will be an internal pressure of 200 MPa. What are the boundary conditions for the problem? c) If the stress in the cladding is to remain compressive, what must be the initial circumferential stress due to interference at the inside surface of the cladding?
