(i) In your own words, explain how a capacitor appears to pass
alternating current while blocking direct current.
(ii) A capacitor has conducting plates with area 5 x 15 mm2 that
are separated by a 10m air filled gap.
What is the capacitance?
(iii) What is the capacitance of a device with the same size
plates as in (a)(ii) but which are separated by a 5 m gap containing
a dielectric with relative permittivity of 12?
(iv) Explain what stray capacitance is and suggest how it might
be avoided when a circuit is designed.
