Question 3 (a) Figure 3.1 shows the circuit of a silicon transistor amplifier. The DC current gain of the transistor is 120 and the DC collector current is to be 2 mA. Calculate appropriate values for Rc, R₁ and R₂. You should clearly show all of your calculations and explain and justify any assumptions you make. [7 marks] Voc R₁ Re Vcc= 12 V RE = 500 0 CE=100 μF 2 RE OV Figure 3.1 (b) Determine a value for C in figure 3.1 such that the cut-off frequency of the input circuit of the amplifier is less than 40 Hz. You may assume that the transistor has hie=1.5 k 2. Clearly show all of your calculations and explain any assumptions or approximations you make. [7 marks] (c) A sinusoidal signal from the output of the amplifier in figure 3.1 has a certain amplitude. However, when it is connected to the input of a second amplifier the amplitude reduces by a factor of 0.4. Explain this effect and calculate the input resistance of the second amplifier. [6 marks] R₂ CE
