The single-phase thyristor rectifier shown in the figure below
is supplied with an AC voltage of 230 Vrms 50Hz and delivers a
direct current of Id = 50A to the output. The commutation
inductance Ls has a value of 0.5 mH. For a firing angle of 30
degrees
a. Calculate the commutation interval (u) and the output DC
voltage (Vd).
b. Express the firing angle α, and the commutation interval
u in milliseconds.
c. Draw the input voltage (Us (t)), the output voltage
(Ud (t)) and the input current (is (t)). Identify the
components as conductor (the four thyristors) in different time
intervals. All drawings must be clear, including numerical values
on both axes.
d. If the firing winding increases (30o <α <90o) and the load
current is kept constant and unchanged, what will happen to the
commutation interval? Will it decrease, increase or remain
indefinite? Justify the answer.
