Objectives: At the end of this task performance, the students should be able to: • Design the BCD to a 7-segment decoder driver by modifying the simplified expressions of each of the output variables. • Apply the minimization of the logic gates in the design but also consider the type of integrated circuit to be used. • Design a code converter circuit using a decoder circuit and external gates. Activities: 1. Each student is to perform the task and is expected to submit the complete solution to the problem which will be assigned to them. 2. The design of the BCD to 7-segment decoder driver discussed in class, will be used in this activity. 3. From the derived simplified expressions of the output variables, modify these expressions to get the least number of logic gates to be used as much as possible, but also consider the type of integrated circuits to be used. Although we will just use the Circuit Verse - Digital Circuit Simulator, think that you will be using the integrated circuits in your design. Maximize the use of these integrated circuits. 4. You will be given another code converter problem but this time, design it using a decoder circuit and external gates. The problems are by set, so whatever set will be assigned to you, you have to work on it. 5. Connect the two circuits. The main input will be coming from the code converter circuit, and the output of your converter circuit will be your input to the BCD to 7-segment decoder driver. 6. Test the circuit. Code Converter Problems • Set A - 84-2-1 code to BCD
