Individual Written Report Due date: 12.00 p. m. on 27 June 2022
(Monday) PART ONE Research Proposal Length: 4,000 words Weighting:
40% You are required to write up a research proposal, which serves
as an introduction to your research project. The research proposal
is a development tool that provides you, as the researcher, with an
opportunity to define your research focus and explain the
importance of your research idea. You will be assigned ONE research
topic from the five seminar topics covered in this module. The
seminar topics are listed in the Module Calendar on page 26 of the
MIB. A well-written research proposal will help you establish a
clear research plan. This assignment provides an opportunity for
you to integrate and link the multiple accounting, finance and
business concepts and theories that you have learnt throughout your
studies thus far. It builds your ability to organize, analyze and
synthesize information to write a research proposal of scholarly
nature. Please ensure that you carefully read the assignment
guidelines below, which outline all the relevant information in
relation to submission such as the format, naming protocols for the
assignment, due date, penalty for late submission and other
specific requirements before working on the assignment. A
supervisor will be assigned to guide you in writing the research
proposal. You are required to meet your supervisor at least three
times during the semester. The meeting between you and your
supervisor will be documented in the ‘Supervision Meeting Form’,
which is available at the end of the MIB. You must remember that
this research proposal is yours and thus, it is your responsibility
to conduct the required research to choose a suitable area of
research within the topic that is assigned to you and write a good
and feasible research proposal. Please meet your supervisor
(face-to-face/virtual/e-mail) for guidance and advice at least
three (3) times during the semester and the 1st meeting must be
virtual not via email. As a result, you are required to submit at
least three Supervision Meeting Forms with the research proposal.
Failure to meet this requirement will result in marks being
penalized for the research proposal up to a maximum of 10 marks.
The supervisor must approve the research title and will review your
work during the meeting(s). There will be no draft submissions. The
structure of the research proposal is outlined below. Structure of
Research Proposal The general structure of a research proposal is
as follows: Title page State the title of the research. The title
of the research is a stand-alone statement that fully describes the
main idea of the proposed research. The title should concisely
identify the variables being investigated and the relationship
among those variables. Use words with a purpose when crafting the
title. Avoid words that do not add substance or words that are
misleading in the title. 18 Introduction The introduction provides
an overview of the background and motivation of the issue being
researched. The introduction should include anecdotal evidence on
the issue that is being researched to further justify why this
research is of importance. The following must be included in the
introduction: Background and Motivation: Introduce the problem
under investigation. Address why you want to investigate the
problem and how your research findings may help. Explain the need
for your research and how your research will fill the “gap” in
literature. Past empirical evidence and statistical data are to be
used as supporting information on the “gap”. Research Objective(s):
Explain the objective(s) of the research. The research objective(s)
must be clearly linked to the research questions and research
topic. Research Question(s): The research question(s) aims to
answer the research objective. Thus, the research objective and
research question must be clearly aligned to each other and the
research topic. State the questions that you will be investigating.
The questions are to be developed from theories, past research or
experience. The research questions should be written in a manner
that clearly reflects the essence of the research. Significance of
Research: Predict the research outcome and the various
beneficiaries. Explain the benefits of the outcome to the
beneficiaries. Who will the findings of your research help?
Academics? Practitioners? Other researchers? Policy makers? Key
management personnel of public listed firms? Literature Review The
literature review covers the scope of your research and describes
the major literature that supports and validates the proposed
research. Critically analyze and synthesize theories and past
research in the context of your research problem. The discussion in
the literature review must lead to the development of the study’s
hypotheses. The hypotheses must be clearly aligned with the
research questions and research objectives. The articles used in
the literature review must be within five (5) years until 2019.
Research Methodology Give an overview of your research framework
and research methodology. Describe how the research will be
conducted and how the variables will be measured. The proposed
research methodology should “fit” and compliment the research
questions. In this section, define the sample; present the sampling
strategy; explain data collection methods and measurement of
variables; consider access and ethical issues; and propose the
research methods to be used. For quantitative research that
involves secondary data collection, the data can be collected from
the Refinitiv Datastream database and/or the Bloomberg database.
Justify the choices of the approaches that you are adopting.
Explain the potential limitations of the research. My Topic should
be in IT Governance.
