Read Chapter 9 of the Hubbard text and the accompanying lecture
notes. Then respond to the following discussion prompt: 1.) What
does the unemployment rate measure--who is counted and who is not
counted and are these numbers an accurate measure or are they
misleading? Go online and find data to compare the impact of
the Great Recession (January 2008 to May 2009) on local
unemployment versus the impact of the coronavirus pandemic (March
2020 to ?). I recommend comparing unemployment rates by selecting
two relevant data points on the line graph produced by the St.
Louis Federal Reserve’s FRED site, for instance, by replacing your
own location in my sample Google search query: “Unemployment rate
in Harnett County, NC St Louis FRED”. What do you observe in
comparison between these two episodes (Great Recession &
pandemic)?
can you maybe at your sources?
