College of International Transport & Logistics ELEO214 & EL224 Transport Economics Dr. Yasmine Rashed Academic Year: 2nd 2021/2022 ASSIGNMENT [10 MARKS] The purpose of the project is to expose you to the importance of the transport cost and the choice of the suitable mean of transport. Guidelines for team formation: Groups of min. 3 & max 4 members in each group. - A presentation of 10-12 mins; each student will present his/her contribution separately. A report 4 pages is to be submitted with the presentation. • Submission of report & presentation on Thursday 26th of May. You are asked as a transport company to ship 2 TEUs containers (door-to-door service); one of them is normal container and the other is a refrigerator container. Provide the following details: 1. Identify your 2 products. 2. Identify the origin and destination (from farm/factory/warehouse) 3. The shipment is across continents from Egypt to Europe. 4. An airport or seaport must be included in the route. This is just an example, you may use another products & route a. A container from oriental wavers factory in the 10th of Ramadan city Industrial zone to Hamburg port. b. Exporting grapes from a farm in Behira governator to Marks & Spencer in London. Required . Calculate the total logistics Costs & Average Transit Time. Include all the logistics costs (transport, handling, packaging.....) • Make a detailed list of the cost items and the share of each one (use a pie chart as below). Show using a map your route • Make a chart as figure 1, showing the relationship between total time and distance. Provide 2 alternative routes and justify of the selected route. Consider the use of using multimodal transport (the use of more than one mode of transport).
