Question 1: Figure 1 gives a view of a corner column of a warehouse located at Cairns, QL. From structural analysis it has been obtained that the column will be subjected to combined actions. The column will carry 20 kN compression force (factored) due to permanent actions (N*c) and 4.0 kNm bending moment (factored) due to combined wind load and permanent actions. Consider, the bending moment will act about the major axis (M*x). The intermediate lateral restraints for the column are shown in Figure 1. In addition, continuous lateral restraint has been provided on the compression side of bending with nailed plywood. The column will be from MGP 15 - 240 x 45 mm made from seasoned blackbutt species. Each end of the columns will be held by bolts. Determine if the column can carry the combined actions. No Wind Nc* Figure 1 1m 1m _1m_ _1m_
