Problem A1. A full journal bearing is 36 mm long. The shaft (journal) has a diameter of 75 mm with unilateral tolerance of 0.02 mm. The bushing (bearing bore) has a diameter of 75.05 mm with unilateral tolerance of 0.08 mm. The load on the bearing is 2.5 kN and the journal rotates at 720 revs/min. SAE 40 lubrication oil is used at an average operating temperature of 60°C. For the minimum clearance, determine: (1) minimum film thickness (ii) the Power Loss (Watt) due to friction in the bearing (i). What must be the flow rate of the oil to maintain hydrodynamic lubrication?.
