Consider the case of a unidirectional boron/epoxy lamina. The
elastic moduli are:
E1 = 204 GPa, E2 = 18.5 GPa, V12 = 0.23 and G12 = 5.59 GPa.
(i) The coefficients of the compliance matrix for a
two-dimensional orthotropic lamina and the minor Poisson’s ratio
(v21)
(ii) The coefficients of the stiffness matrix for a
two-dimensional orthotropic lamina
(iii) The strains in the principal 12 coordinate system if the
applied stresses are std1 = 2 MPa, std2 = -4MPa and tau12 = 5
MPa.
(iv) Describe the shear coupling effect for a generally
orthotropic lamina.
