USE NSCP 2015
A square footing 2.5 m x 2.5 m supports a rectangular column 300
mm x 300 mm at its center. Concrete cover to bar centroid = 100 mm.
Ultimate load combination is 1.2D + 1.6L.
Column loads are service conditions: DL = 680 kN LL = 400 kN f’c
= 20.7 MPa fy = 275 MPa
a. Calculate the minimum required thickness of the slab to be
adequate against wide beam shear. = [t] mm
answer: 420
b. Calculate the nominal punching-shear stress acting at the
critical section of the footing slab if the thickness of the slab
is 450 mm. = [s] MPa (2 decimal places)
answer: 1.99
c. Calculate the ultimate moment at critical section for bending
for 1-m strip of the footing slab. = [Mu] kN·m/m (whole number
answer: 141
