An aluminum I-beam with Ea=70 GPa and Y=130 MPa has been
reinforced by two steel faceplate sheets of thickness 1.2 mm each
and Es=200 GPa and Y=260 MPa. For the load shown, determine the
maximum stress then compute the F.S. according to the Tresca
failure criterion. (Neglect shear stresses due to bending and all
stress concentrations)

Problem 1. An aluminum I-beam with E₁-70 GPa and oy=130 MPa has been reinforced by two steel faceplate sheets of thickness 1.2 mm each and Es-200 GPa and Gy=260 MPa. For the load shown, determine the maximum stress then compute the F.S. according to the Tresca failure criterion.
