Question 2: (Marks = 3) Liddell Power Station owned and operated by AGL Energy uses both Rankine and Brayton Cycle firing Coal and Fuel Oil (residual oil obtained from petroleum distillation) respectively. A combined cycle gas-steam power plant is also commissioned that has a net power output of 150 MW. The gas cycle operates with a pressure ratio of 11, where air enters the compressor at 300 K and turbine at 1100 K. The combustion gases leaving the gas turbine are used to heat the steam at 5 MPa to 350°C in a heat exchanger. The combustion gases leave the heat exchanger at 420 K. An open feedwater heater incorporated with the steam cycle operates at a pressure of 0.8 MPa. The condenser pressure is 10 kPa. Assuming isentropic efficiencies of 90 percent for the pump, 80 percent for the compressor and 85 percent for the gas and steam turbines, determine: a) The mass flow rate ratio of air to steam b) The required rate of heat input in the combustion chamber c) The thermal efficiency of the combined cycle Exhaust Gas to Atmosphere via Stack Heat Recovery Steam Generator Air Inlet Compressor Fuel- Natural Gas Combustion Chamber Gas Turbine Exhaust Air Steam Turbine High Pressure Steam Pump Generator Generator Low Pressure Exhaust Steam Air Cooled Condenser Feed water Air Out Air In Electrical Grid
