Problem 4 The velocity profile for a very viscous liquid as it flows through a 0.5m wide rectangular channel is approximated as u = 6y². The rectangular channel ends in a nozzle (length, 1.5m) which is designed u in such a way that the velocity in the nozzle varies as u(x)= where, the velocity , is 1-0.5 %%/1) the entrance average velocity, L is the nozzle length and x, refers to the position in the nozzle starting from the inlet. The velocity can be assumed to be uniform across each section. y 0.5m L = 1.5m a) Calculate the volumetric flow of the liquid entering the nozzle section. b) Calculate the velocity at the entrance of the nozzle, assuming it to be an average velocity. c) calculate the acceleration halfway through the nozzle. Is this a steady flow? d) What is the nozzle contraction as a ratio of the inlet and outlet diameters?
