TASK A: SIGNAL CONDITIONING (5%) A temperature monitoring system of a bearing in turbo generator is part of permanent diagnostic generator monitoring system. Temperature trends are an important indicator of the generator rotor condition. The temperature measurement system consists of six main elements as illustrated in Figure 1. Output Input True Value Sensing Element Signal Conditioning Element Signal Processing Element Data Presentation Element Measured Value Figure 1: Structure of measurement system 1) Explain in details each element of the measurement system and give examples of tool/technique involved for the temperature measurement system. 2) If the temperature range of operation is from 100°C to 400°C, suggest a technique to provide 4 to 20 mA standard output signal for this temperature range. TASK B: DATA ACQUISITION (5%) 3) Consider a temperature sensor with an output of 0.05mV/°C and further amplified by a factor of 100. Determine the required ADC reference and word size to measure 100°C to 400°C with 0.4 °C/bit resolution. 4) Suggest two design methods to improve the sensitivity of the measurement system. Then, list down the design implications to the system. You could consider positive or negative implication of the design.
