ERROR1
an experiment has been performed below. what can be the sources
of error in this experiment and how can you develop the experiment
to get a better yield, for example. The yield is written below.
Reaction 1: radical reaction= 40 mmol
Flowchart 1 radical reaction
Place 7,2g of N-bromosuccinimide and 4,3 ml of toluene
in a 100ml round bottomed flask and a few boiling
stones.

add 0,4g of benzoyl peroxide

add with pipette 50 ml of toluene and wash the solids
that have stuck to the
sides of the flask

set up the reflux device, and heat upp the solution (1h)
and swirl the solution every 5
min. ( toluene boils at 110,6 degrees)

take the round bottom flask and put it in an ice bath
(10min)

dissolve the solids with 50 ml of milliQ
water

separate liquid phase and organ phase in a separatory
funnel.

wash the organic phase with 10ml brine

dry the organ phase with magnesium sulfate and use
gravity filtration to filter the solution

evaporate the solution to get rid of remaining toluene,
(boiling point 110 degrees)

record the yield and run IR-spectra
Theoretical yield: 0,04x92,14g/mol(starting matherial)=
3,7g maximum
Weight of the rounded bottom flask= 96,33g
weight of the rounded bottom flask + products solution=
102,2g
weight of the products solution= 102,2-96,33=
5,87g
Yield= 5.87g/3,7gx100= 125%. why?
