The pesticide diazinon is in common use to treat infestations of the German cockroach, Blattella germanica. A study investigated the persistence of this pesticide on various types of surfaces. Researchers applied a 0.5% emulsion of diazinon to glass and to plasterboard. After 14 days, they randomly assigned 100 cockroaches to two groups of 50, placed one group on each surface, and recorded the number that died within 48 hours. On glass, 22 cockroaches died, while on plasterboard 32 died. We wish to determine if this is convincing evidence that the proportion of all cockroaches which will die when exposed to diazinon on plasterboard, Pp, is greater than the proportion of all cockroaches which will die when exposed to diazinon on glass, PG a) Which conditions need to be met in order for the distribution of Pp - Ông to be approximately Normal? Select all that apply. np > 10 and n(1-P) 10 nộp 2 10 and n(1 - Pp) 2 10 and PG 2 10 and n(1 - ỘG) 10 npp > 10 and np(1 - pp) > 10 and GG > 10 and nG(1 - ỘG) 10 npộc 2 10 and np(1 - P.) 2 10 and NGÊc 2 10 and nG(1 - ) 2 10, where pe = 22 + 32 50 + 50 b) Write a pair of hypotheses O Ho: PP - PG = 0 [Pp = PG] Ha: Pp - PGO [PP <PG) O Ho: Pp - PG = 0 [Pp = PG] Ha: Pp - PG > 0 [Pp > PG] 0 Ho: PP - P = 0 [PP = PG Ha: PP - PG> 0 [ộp > BG] O Ho: Pp - PG = 0 [Pp = Pa] Ha: PpPG+ 0 [Pp * PG] c) Calculate the standardized test statistic. (3 decimal places) z = d) Determine the p-value. (4 decimal places) p-value = e) What is your conclusion at a = 0.050? Because the p-value is so small (p-value < 0.050) we fail to reject Ho, there is not enough evidence to say that the proportion of all cockroaches that die when exposed to diazinon on plasterboard is greater than than the proportion of all cockroaches that die when exposed to diazinon on glass. O Because the p-value is so small (p-value < 0.050) we reject Ho, there is strong evidence that the proportion of all cockroaches that die when exposed to diazinon on plasterboard is greater than the proportion of all cockroaches that die when exposed to diazinon on glass. Because the p-value is so large (p-value > 0.050) we reject Ho, there is strong evidence that the proportion of all cockroaches that die when exposed to diazinon on plasterboard is greater than the proportion of all cockroaches that die when exposed to diazinon on glass.
