The cantilever retaining wall shown in the Figure above retains
soil having unit weight of 18 kN/m3 and angle of shearing
resistance of 300. Unit weight of concrete is 23.5 kN/m3 . Neglect
the effect of the soil on the right side of the wall.
4. Calculate the factor of safety against sliding if the
coefficient of friction between the base and the foundation is
0.60.
5. Calculate the maximum service moment at the stem per meter
length of the wall.
6. If the stern is to be reinforced with 20 mm bars with
centroid 85 mm from the extreme concrete, what is the required
spacing of bars? Use f'c = 24 MPa and fy = 345 MPa.
