Figure 1 shows the plan view of a two-story reinforced concrete structure that consists of four 3m x 5m slabs per floor. The three two-story, two-bay frames of the structure in the y-direction are located at a distance of 3m from center to center, are braced against lateral forces along the y-direction, and support a permanent load, gk = 12kN/m2 (including weight of beams and slabs) and a variable load, ok = 20kN/m2. Figure 2 shows the elevation view of the two-story, two-bay frame under consideration, located in the y-direction, along line bb' of the plan view. The size of all columns is 250mm x 250mm and their effective height has been estimated to be 2.50m. The beams supporting the slabs have a width of 250mm and an overall height of 500mm. The characteristic material strengths of concrete and steel are fck=30N/mm2 and fyk=500 N/mm2, respectively.
