Consolidation settlement measured in the field is often
different from the magnitude estimated using Terzaghi's
theory of one-dimensional consolidation. Briefly discuss the
possible reasons for the following observations:
(i) the consolidation settlement measured in the field is
significantly larger than the estimation using Terzaghi's theory of
one-dimensional consolidation.
(ii) the consolidation settlement measured in the field is
significantly smaller than the estimation using Terzaghi's theory
of one-dimensional consolidation.
