Problem, Two reservoirs are connected by two smooth pipes in series. The entrance and exit to and from the reservoir are flush and submerged. The first pipe is 750 m long and 300 mm in diameter and the second pipe is 900 m long and 150 mm in diameter. The junction between the two pipes is a sudden contraction (k=0.3). Other fittings present include globe valve(k=10) near the higher reservoir and a gate valve (k=7.5) near the lower reservoir. Determine the discharge in the system if the difference in water (v=1x10-6 m2/s) surface elevations is 30 m.
