(b) Draw the shear force diagram and bending moment diagram based on the loading condition and derive the equations for bending moment and shear force. (c) Determine the size of I beam with specifications shown below with the smallest possible section that can carry the bending moment in the simply supported beam. Maximum allowable stress is 60 kPa. 10t H 1.4t 5t (d) Decide on an alternative steel hollow square section with the loading condition specified in section (a) if the shearing stress is limited to 2 MPa. Discuss its difference with previous section in detail. Which section is your preference? Explain your reason. 5t 7.8t (e) Find the deflections of beam based on the worst-case scenario that you chose in part (a) above, and compare results. What is your judgement on the deflection? Is it acceptable or not?
