Question-2 [ 10 Marks] A shaft carries three masses A, B and C. Planes B and C are 60 cm and 120 cm from A. A B and C are 50 kg, 40 kg and 60 kg respectively at a radius of 2.5 cm. The angular position of mass B and mass C with A are 90° and 120° respectively. If the shaft is balanced by two counter masses located at 10 cm radii and revolving in planes midway of planes A and B, and midway of B and C, determine the followings using the graphical technique: (a)Draw the positions of the planes along the shaft and angular positions of the masses (angles measured from positive x- axis). [2 Marks] (b) Construct a table and tabulate all necessary data. [2 Marks] (C) Choose appropriate scales for the couple and force diagrams and write them clearly. [1 Marks] (d) Draw the couple diagram. [1.5 Marks] (e) Draw the force diagram. [1.5 Marks] (f) Determine the magnitude of the balance masses. [1 Marks] (g) Determine the angular position of the balance masses from the positive x- axis. [1 Marks]
