3. Compare the energy efficiency of third and fourth generation district heating system (points: 12) The third and fourth generation district heating system are operated with the following parameters Supply water temperature Return water temperature Ambient temperature Source heat 3GDH 75 °C 60 °C 5 °C 1000kW 4GDH 40 °C 30 °C 5 °C 1000kW 1) Select the heat source for the 3GDH and 4GDH Option1: heat pump, with internal efficiency 50% Option2: natural gas boiler, with energy efficiency of 95% . We know the electricity generation efficiency of natural gas power plant is 43%. Select the most energy efficient heating source for 3GDH and 4GDH using the metrics of end-to-end (natural gas to heat) efficiency (points: 5). 2) We know the pump energy consumption for 3GDH is 50kW, calculate the pump energy consumption for 4GDH (points: 2) 3) We know the heat loss for 3GDH is 100kW, calculate the heat loss for 4GDH, assuming the mean temperature of the district heating network can be estimated using the average of the supply and return water temperature (points: 1) 4) Calculate the system COP of 3GDH and 4GDH, using the most energy efficient heat source (points: 4)
