Question 1 a. The mass in the spring-mass system, shown below, is subjected to an initial displacement of 0.05m. Determine free vibration response of the mass using the following data: m=20 kg; k= 25 kN/m; u=0.15 b. Repeat simulations for u=0.1 and u=0.25, and discuss the influence of friction coefficient on the response and lock-up of the mass. K mü m AF F Question 2 a. Formulate the governing equation of motion, and show the acceleration response of the mass assuming u=0.1, F0 = 60N and w = 30 rad. b. Derive expressions for the equivalent damping ratio and vibration response as a function of the excitation frequency. Plot vibration response (magnitude and phase) of the mass in the 1 to 100 rad/s frequency range, given that Fo = 60N. rad S d. By comparing the mass acceleration response at w = 30 discuss if an equivalent damping representing the friction yields a good approximation of the forced vibration response of the system?
