Steam at a temperature of 150 oC flows through a steel pipe 12
cm inside diameter
and 4 mm thick. The thermal conductivity of the steel is 12 W/m.K.
The pipe is
insulated with a 5 cm insulating material with a thermal
conductivity of 0.05 W/m.K.
The air surrounding the insulated pipe is at 0 oC. The heat
transfer coefficient of the
steam side of the pipe is 900 W/m2.K while that on the outside of
the insulation is
3.0 W/m2.K. The heat loss through the pipe into the surrounding air
is about:
[2]

a) 80 W/m
b) 150 W/m
c) 65 W/m
d) 32 W/m
e) 10 W/m
