11.5 The weight on each of the four wheels of an over- head crane is 24 kN. The wheel diameter is 620 mm. Each wheel is carried by a bearing with a journal diame- ter of 80 mm and a length of 130 mm. The bearing clear- ance is 0,08 mm. Estimate the possible running tempera- ture of the bearings which are drip fed. Assume a suitable type of oil and find the probable value of the coefficient of friction. If all the other rolling resistance in the crane – including track resistance and friction other than that in the wheel bearings – amounts to 1 500 N, find the power required to drive the crane at 120 metres per minute. .
