a) Describe the empirical relationship, observed by Chvorinov, between the solidification time, ts, and the volume/area ratio of castings made in 'insulating moulds (Explain in your own words!). b) The solidification time for a metallic casting of thickness, S, in an insulating mold (assuming semi-infinite solid) is given by: AS2 1 H metale metal 16 P moldk mold mold AT where P mold k mola and Cmold respectively are the density, conductivity and specific heat of the mold material; Hmetal and Pmetal are the latent heat of solidification and density of the metal, and AT is the difference between the molten metal temperature and the initial temperature of the mold. Demonstrate whether the above relationship is in agreement with Chvorinov's law for a flat casting of fairly large surface area and uniform thickness
