= = = The roof of a particular scale model of an automobile is considered to have a roof element that can conveniently be regarded as a smooth flat plate. The dimensions given are 2 m long in the streamwise direction and 1m in width. This is placed in a wind tunnel in the streamwise direction. The following data are available to you: p = 101.325 kPa, T = 15.16°C, gas constant R = 286.97 m²/(s2K), u =1.79x10-5 Pa.s, and wind tunnel air velocity of 30 m/s. i. Calculate the transition point based on the plate's streamwise direction. State your assumptions. ii. At the transition point, calculate the following boundary layer properties: 8,5*, 0, Cf. Also calculate the total drag force from the leading edge to the transition point. iii. If the transition takes place at the leading edge, calculate the values of 8, 5*, 0, Cf. Also calculate the total drag force. 1
iv. Give reasons why the figures in ii. above differ from iii.
