in the returns department, we deal with units coming back from
customers and our top priority is to make them available in picking
bins ASAP, so that they can be resold at the earliest. The first
process is unloading, where all the units delivered are off loaded
on the dock. Units are then separated to feed the
following 2: returns and return problems. After every unit is
processed, it is put away on the shelves in pickable bins through
the BTS (Back To Stock) process.
The objective is to process the entire volume in one 8-hour
shift (assume there are no breaks). The shift manager started the
resource planning but had to leave for an urgent meeting. With the
information below at your disposal, please fill the rest of the
table below:

There is a breakdown in operations 3 hours before the end of the
shift that forces the team to stop and lose productivity. It is
eventually repaired 2 hours later and operations are back up. All
employees are available to work in the last hour of the shift. On
top of that, and in an effort to process as many orders as
possible, you were able to convince 8 employees to sign up for an
additional hour of overtime.
how would you plan the resources during the last hour of the
shift, and the additional hour of overtime? What is the volume that
you are left with (unable to ship) by the end of the day? All
employees are trained in all processes. Please answer below:
