Circulatory System Review the morphological patterns of aortic arches and primary arterial and venous vessels in vertebrates (again, rather broad)-focus on key differences between synapsids and sauropsids. • Be able to diagram 1) the generalized gnathostome embryonic pattern of aortic arches, and 2) the same pattern for the venous system • What are the 3 embryonic/ancestral systems of veins? How have each been modified in the evolution of tetrapods (especially mammals)? Urogenital System • Describe the typical embryonic pattern of development of nephrogenic tissues in the major vertebrate groups. How do amniotes differ from anamniotes? Focus on key differences of the renal systems between synapsids and sauropsids. Review the mammalian kidney and nephron organization. Draw and label a mammalian nephron and its blood supply. How does the loop of Henle and adjacent collecting duct serve to facultatively regulate urine concentration and blood volume? What is the role of ADH in water conservation? Describe the typical embryonic pattern of development of reproductive tracts in the major vertebrate groups • Compare the adult male and female reproductive tracts between representative fish, amphibians, and amniotes Compare the reproductive tracts of female monotreme, metatherian (marsupial), and eutherian (placental) mammals. What developmental differences determine the structural differences between marsupials and eutherians? Diagram the generalized adult male and female eutherian mammalian reproductive tracts (in left lateral view)
