Why is the sign of AS what you have found it to be? (Hint: Think about how the water molecules are arranged around the ions.) Given: S/ K-1 mol-1 41.6 Zn(s) Zn2+(aq) -112.1 Note: Using these values of Sº with the AS value determined for the reaction is not quite valid because the experiment is not performed under standard conditions. But for the purposes of this exercise and to obtain an estimate of AS for the reaction, their use is acceptable. 7) Explain why it is recommended that the Zn electrode be cleaned with emery paper?
