Your on an alien ship equipped with two lasers. One red laser
with a 633 nm and a green laser with a wavelength of 532 nm. Your
alien captain decided he wanted to experiment with light
wavelengths by using a single slit and double slit experiments. He
sets up his spaceship a distance of L from a screen and shines his
red laser through a slit and sends you out into space to mark the
Nth minimum from the resulting diffraction pattern.
What distance should you use between the screen and the
slit for the firing of the green laser so that the Mth
maximum of its diffraction pattern lines up with the mark made
before at the Nth minimum?
Please solve this twice, once if the alien is shooting through a
double slit both times and once if he is using a single slit!
Thanks a ton!!
Assume that L, N, and M are given. Answer should be in terms of
these variables
