In two of these states, the energy of the atom is E =-€ < 0, and in the third state E=0. a) Find the partition function Z, and the Helmholtz free energy F. b) From part (a), compute the internal energy U, entropy S, and chemical potential p as a function of temperature T. c) Evaluate the entropy in part (b) in the T +0 ( Bo) limit. Can you explain your result in terms of the multiplicity of the ground state? d) Compute the heat capacity C as a function of B = 1/kT. Does your result agree with the 3rd Law?
