Mary Glass, a 65-year-old Nepalese married woman who has
Diabetes Mellitus as well as other comorbidities- GERD,
osteoarthritis, high blood pressure, obese and suffers from partial
immobility related to the complication of the disease. She was
first diagnosed in 2006. She found out that she had type-II
diabetes during a random BGL test, her sugar level was a little
higher than 19 mmol. She had developed peripheral neuropathy, due
to its complication. Mary came Australia 3 years ago to look after
her grandchildren. Mary lives in a one storey house with her
daughter, son in-law and 2 grandchildren aged 3 and 9. In
terms of the independence to dependence continuum related to her
mobilisation, when she came to Australia she was walking
independently without any aid or help, where now she is using
standing stick for walking as assessed and reviewed by the
physiotherapist. Due to her little lack of balance caused by
insensitivity on the lower leg, she has been experiencing a gradual
decline in mobility.Mary is doing all her ADL;s by herself so far.
she had been needing and taking time for doing her ADL's. Mary
stated she was anxious about her decline in mobility as she gets
very hard to get up from one place to another.
Care priority is mobility.
Question 1: What will the consequences be if you do not address
this as your priority? This is where you need to justify this being
your priority-use evidence to support?
Question 2: As a Nurse what is the relevant health education you
will provide in relation to the identified care priority? you will
need to provide specific information about what exact education you
will provide. This need to be more that "provide brochures" or "how
to access information on the internet". The content of the
education needs to be specific and relevant to the person.
