A balance consists of a pan of mass m, supported by a linear undamped spring. It is known that when the plate is placed on the spring, the latter undergoes a descent ( ' lo ' ) to the new equilibrium position. With the balance at rest, a mass M falls on the pan from a height h, the collision being perfectly plastic (zero coefficient of restitution). It is requested:
a. Equations of subsequent motion.
b. Minimum value of h so that throughout the movement the mass M detaches itself from the plate (it must be considered that, after the first shock, M does not remain adhered to the plate and can therefore separate if necessary).
(Final exam, 19 1993)

as I do not have data or numerical values, the answers are in unknowns, if data is missing put them in unknowns
