Consider a rocket moving in space under no external forces. The exhaust speed, u, of the gas from the engine depends on the amount of fuel in the rocket as U = k mfuel = k(m – mb) where m denotes the total mass of the rocket, mp is the mass of the rocket body without any fuel and k is a proportional constant. = At t = 0, the rocket total mass is mo = 3mp and it starts the engine to accelerate from rest along a straight line. (a) Find the acceleration of the rocket when half the fuel is burnt. [5pt] (b) Find the final speed of the rocket when all the fuel is burnt. [15pt]
