Please complete all i will give a thumbs up for sure.
Page < > of 8 ZOOM Part 3: Weather Maps You see weather maps on television all the time, but just what do they mean? In this you will practice some basic weather map interpretation. Isobars and Barometric Pressure An isobar is a line connecting locations of equal barometric pressure. Isobar maps show where pressures are relatively high and low and where pressure changes are gradual or dramatic. Isobars are found every 4 millibars (mb) - 996, 1000, 1004, etc. Isobar lines DO NOT cross and should NOT be extended off the map. In this activity you will be connecting areas of equal pressure to find areas of High Pressure and Low pressure. FIND THE AREA OF HIGHEST PRESSURE AND WORK YOUR WAY OUT TO THE LOWEST PRESSURE. Isobars can be used to identify "Highs" and "Lows". The pressure in a high is greater than the surrounding air. The pressure in a low is lower than the surrounding air. Label the center of the high-pressure area with a large blue "H". Label the center of the low-pressure area with a large red "L". 1016 1016 1016 1020 1020 1016 1020 1016 1020 1012 1024 1016 1012 1012 1024 1016 1008 1012 1012 1016 1008 1016 1024 1008 1016 1012 1008 1020 1012 1020 1016 1012 1012 1024 1020 1020 1012 1016 1016 1016
Page < 6 > of 8 ZOOM Isotherms and Temperature This map shows the air temperature for various locations over the conterminous U.S. The values are in "F. An isotherm is a line connecting locations of equal temperature. You will draw lines connecting the temperatures, much like you did with above. However, you will also need to interpolate between values. Interpolation involves estimating values between stations which will enable you to properly analyze a map. Using a blue colored pencil, lightly draw lines connecting equal values of temperatures, every 10°F. Remember, like isobars, these lines are smooth and do not cross each other. Isotherms are also used to identify warm and cold air masses. When you are done drawing your lines, shade, in blue, the region with the lowest temperatures and shade, in red, the region with the warmest air. 40 30 20 50 30 40 30 20 20 20 30 40 50 50 40 30 40 20 20 30 50 25 40 60 30 60 40 30 40 70 80 30 80 40 40 60 80 80 90 80
