conditions characterized by stiff clay formations. Moreover, the
attenuation relationships for the PHGA and PHGV and the value of Td
are given from the formulas below:
Ln (PHGA) = 3.88 + 1.12Ms - 1.65*ln(R+15) + 0.41S (cm/s2 )
Ln(PHGV) = -0.79 + 1.41*Ms -1.62*ln(R+10) -0.22S (cm/s)
S = 0 for soil and 1 for firm ground
LogTd = -3+ 0.5*Ms
An earthquake with Ms = 6.3 occurred from the smallest distance
for both sites. Using the damping ratio ξ=2%
you need to calculate the maximum displacement and the maximum
base shear for structures having fundamental periods 0.3s, 0.7s and
2.0s. Identify the spectral regions corresponding to each of those
type of structures.
