Write the formulas to show the reactants and the products for
the 8 laboratory situations described below. In all
cases, a reaction occurs. Assume that solutions are aqueous unless
otherwise indicated. Represent substances in solution as ions if
the substances are extensively ionized. Omit formulas for any ions
or molecules that are unchanged by the reaction. You need not
balance the equations.
a) Diethyl ether is ignited in air.
b) A bar of aluminum is placed in a solution of copper(II)
nitrate.
c) Fine iron wire is heated in oxygen.
d) An electric current is passed through molten potassium
iodide.
e) Solid calcium oxide is sprinkled onto water.
f) A dilute solution of HF is added to excess
KOH solution.
g) Solid KClO3 is mixed with solid
MnO2 and heated in a test tube.
h) Solutions of Na2S and
Mn(NO3)2 are mixed.
