Pharmaceutical Analysis
An unknown metal cation has a +1 charge. the bromide of the
unknown metal (Metal Br) is dissolved in enough water to make 100mL
of solution. The solution is then mixed with an excess of silver
nitrate solution to precipitate silver bromide. The precipitate is
collected by the filtration, dried, and the following data were
obtained:
Mass of metal Br= 1.38g
Mass of filter paper= 0.98g
Mass of filter paper and precipitate= 2.86g
Atomic weights: Ag-108, Br-80, N-14, O-16
1. What is the molecular weight of the titrant?
2. What is the molecular weight of the precipitate?
3. What is the weight of the precipitate?
4. How many moles of the precipitate are in the solution?
5. How many moles of metal Br are in the solution?
6. What is the identity of the metal chloride?
