mb A crane is made from a uniform rigid boom of length L = 25m and mass mp = 50kg. The boom is sup- ported by a frictionless axle connecting it to the floor. The boom is connected at the top with a cable which connects to the floor Adjusting the length of the cable adjusts the angle of the boom. In a par- ticular application, the crane is used to support a payload with mass Mp = 180kg. The boom makes an angle o = 45° with the horizontal and the support cable makes an angle 0 30° with the horizontal. me Φ = a) (7 points) Draw an extended free body diagram (not for a point mass) for the boom showing all the forces acting on the boom. Be sure to indicate the point of application of the force and be sure to label all the forces. b) (7 points) Determine the tension in the support cable. c) (6 points) Determine the horizontal and vertical components of the force exerted by the hinge on the boom.
