3. (a) A 2kg particle rotates about a fixed axis with angular position. 9 = 38 +5t where is in radians and t is in seconds. The particle is 1.2 m from the rotation axis. At time t= 3 s, calculate (i) the tangential acceleration of the particle. [3 marks] (ii) the kinetic energy of the particle. [3 marks]

(b) Three small particles, with masses of M, 2M and 3M, are fastened to a 0.2 kg thin rod of length L as shown M and I are 0.001 kg and 6 m respectively. The masses are rotated about rotational axis that passes the 3M particle. Calculate the total rotational inertia of the assembly. [Rotational inertia of a thin rod with rotation axis at the center of mass, Icom = M*] [4 marks] Rotational axis 1/2 1/2 3.M 211 M
