Question 3 25 Marks (a) Weather compensation is often used on larger commercial radiator based building heating systems. Draw a schematic showing the general arrangement of such a system (10 marks) (b) Water at 20 °C is transferred between two tanks at the same level arranged as shown in Fig.3. The pipe after the pump has a total length of 15m and is fitted with a check valve and four 90° elbow bends. The equivalent lengths for the fittings are 3.4m for the check valve, 1.6m for each elbow bend and 0.75m for the exit into Tank 2. The galvanized steel pipe work has a 25mm internal diameter and a surface roughness of 0.15mm Note that a Moody chart is attached to this paper. (0) Calculate the pressure loss for the pipe work between the pump and Tank 2 if the velocity in the pipe is 1.5m/s. (10 Marks) (ii) Calculate the pump power required if there is an additional pressure drop at the pump intake of 10kPa and the pump efficiency is 60%.
