Question 1 [30 Marks) In a chemical industrial setting the irreversible gas-phase non-elementary reaction is to be carried out isothermally in a constant-pressure batch reactor as part of a pilot study. The feed mixture is at a temperature of 300°C, a pressure of 1013.25kPa, and its composition is 40% A and 60% B. The chemical laboratory data collected under identical conditions are as follows: A+BC х 0.0 0.2 0.4 0.6 1/-r (dm .min)/mol * 10 1.66 3.33 8.29 16.6 (a) Estimate the volume of a plug-flow reactor required to achieve 45% conversion of A for an entering volumetric flow rate of 50 m/min. [12] (b) Estimate the volume of a CSTR required to take the effluent from the plug-flow reactor above and achieve total conversion of 55% based on species A fed to the PRF. [12] (c) What is the total volume of the two reactors? [6] Question 2 (10 Marks) In the second phase of the experiments, you are required to calculate the equilibrium conversion for the following liquid-phase reaction and express the reaction rate as function of conversion: A+B C with Cao = CBo = 2mol/dm' and Kc = 0.110 dm2/mol. Question 3 (10 Marks) What type of reactor would you recommend for the reaction: N2 + 3H2 → 2NH3 Draw a sketch of the reactor you have recommended and explain how you will perform reactor sizing. Make sure you indicate your assumptions. (Hint: Use conversion, temperature, pressure, rate of reactions e.t.c) ruin
