The manufacturer of a component that will be subjected to
fatigue from -0 MPa to 50 MPa, specifies that it must be changed
when it has been detected that the crack has advanced up to 40% of
its critical value. The manufacturing process of the component
leaves cracks on the surface of 0.1mm. The material has the
following properties: KIC = 70MPam1/2 and crack growth is
characterized by n=3.1 and C= 10E-11. Assume f=1.12.
How many lifecycles does the component have left after it has
been removed as activated by the manufacturer?
