The NO₂ concentration in air is determined by bubbling an air sample through a trap containing H₂O₂. Oxidation of NO₂ by H₂O₂ results in the formation of HNO3, which is then determined by titration with NaOH. In the analysis, the air sample was passed through the H₂O₂ trap at a rate of 282 L/min for 1 hour and 9.14 mL of 0.01 M NaOH was required to reach the methyl red endpoint.
NaOH + HNO3 → NaNO3 + H₂O
a. Determine the concentration in mg/L of NO₂ in the air sample. Assume that the moles of NO₂ are equal to the moles of HNO3
b. Calculate the uL/L of NO2 in the air sample, if the density of NO2 is 1.45 mg NO₂ /mL NO₂
